Poker Positions: from UTG to the Button

Poker table positions from UTG to the button and blinds. This is the position-order page, not the position-advice tool.

6-max poker table positions

Seats run clockwise from the player left of the big blind. A 9-max table inserts UTG+1, UTG+2 and lojack between UTG and hijack; the button and blinds stay the same.

In position vs out of position

In position means you act last on a street. Out of position means you act first. The button is in position against every seat after the flop; the small blind is out of position against almost everyone.

FAQ

What are poker positions / table positions?

They are the seats around a Texas Holdem table relative to the dealer button. Later seats act with more information and can play more hands.

What does UTG mean?

Under the Gun is first to act preflop, immediately left of the big blind, so it opens the tightest range.

What is in position vs out of position?

In position means you act last on a street. Out of position means you act first. Position is why the button can open wider than UTG or the blinds.

Is this the position advice tool?

No. This page explains table order. Seat-specific Open / 3-Bet frequencies live on the starting hands chart.
